During the 94-day period between May 8th and August 9th, Costa Rica generated 100% of its electricity from renewable energy. Earlier this year, Costa Rica generated 100% of its electricity from renewables for a period of 75 days. Costa Rica has had 188 days in which 100% electricity was generated from renewables.
According to the Costa Rican Institute of Electricity (ICE), 78% of electricity came from hydropower, 12% from geothermal, and 10% from wind. A marginal amount of electricity was generated through solar power.
