Chile has potential to attract US$ 20b in investments for geothermal

The Geothermal Roundtable of Chile has issued its final report which highlights the potential of creating over 3,800 MW of geothermal energy. Requested by the Geothermal Council of Chile and the Ministry of Energy, the report comes at the conclusion of 13 workshop sessions with the Geothermal Roundtable which were held during 2017.

In terms of the geothermal potential in the country, the report highlights how this sector can become a competitive market due to technological advances, which could potentially reduce costs and attract more investments. Moreover, the government has required geothermal projects to have one drill to be able to participate in PPA Auctions, which will reduce the amount of upfront capital previously required.
