Cayman Islands look to electric vehicles to achieve renewables targets

The Cayman Islands’ National Energy Policy aims to achieve a target of 70% renewable energy by 2037. Infrastructure Minister, Mr Joey Hew, is optimistic this target will be met, helped by the small steps the government is making to promote and use the renewable energy sources in and around the islands.

The latest policy aims to increase the use of electric and hybrid vehicles.

Mr. Hew announced the government is leading by example through their pledge of “converting 10% of its fleet to electric vehicles over the next 5 years”.

While some concessions are already available to consumers and homeowners, further incentives are expected to encourage the adoption of energy efficient appliances.
