Caribbean shifts attention to aviation sector

The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) president, Dr. Warren Smith, is calling for a reform in the aviation industry in the region.  The reform, he stated, should aim to improve the connectivity to be convenient, flexible and reasonably priced.

The reform will demand a significant change in policies and actions by regional governments to reduce taxes and fees charges, increase liberalisation and improve the regulatory environment. The CDB also will support regional governments in improving airport and airline operations, via greater use of technology and infrastructure.

The reforms have potential to increase the competition in the aviation market, and provide greater choice and lower fares of passengers, providing a boost to regional economies.
