Caribbean energy efficiency lighting project in Barbados

The Caribbean Energy Efficiency Lighting Project (CEELP) supports government partners in the transition to energy efficient (EE) lighting in Barbados and throughout the Eastern Caribbean. A recent training focused on project development software that will assist users in evaluating the potential outcomes of proposed projects as well as aid in determining the best intervention strategies (projects) to accomplish specific objectives.

Project planning tools included, RetScreen, Energyplan, Super-Efficient Equipment and Appliance Deployment (SEAD) and Reluxe Suite, among others. Attendees present were mid and senior-level technicians in Ministries of Environment, Energy and Finance in Antigua, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts, St. Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Another pilot project in the CEELP portfolio is the replacement of street and office fluorescent lights with LED lights in six Eastern Caribbean countries and Barbados. CEELP is a UNDP/SIDS DOCK Support Program project designed to assist Barbados and the OECS territories in removing the policy, capacity and investment barriers to EE lighting.
